Dusty

Singer Dusty experienced a miraculous event when she healed only through the vibration of her voice from a paralizing brain stroke. Ever since she channels intuitive melodies and lyrics in her performances live at the spot.

Chapter 1

Childhood & dreams

Saskia Stäuble was born on 28th July in Basel, Switzerland, and grew up in the cozy Fricktaler village Zeiningen on the countryside.

AS A LITTLE GIRL, SHE HAD ALWAYS BEEN SINGING AND DREW MUCH ATTENTION WITH HER STRONG VOICE ALREADY AT THE AGE OF SIX.

She used her strong voice when she sang the songs of Walt Disney with her full body and soul. This dedication let her always come under the best in the school’s music lessons. Accordingly, her grades were excellent.

She remembers herself sitting in the staircase when she heard from somewhere in the neighbourhood Beethoven’s “For Elise” being played on a piano. IT WAS A MILD SUMMER EVENING THAT SASKIA WOULD NEVER FORGET. LOOKING INTO THE DEEP YELLOW-ORANGED SUN RAYS, SHE TRULY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SOUNDS OF THE PIANO.

At the age of eleven she already began to write short poems and lyrics. This way she expressed her longing for the big world in a very own and personal way.

Singing, dancing & ballet

Her childhood and youth was shaped by seven years of ballet. Although she had the flair of always being late for ballet lessons, she was taught perseverance to stand up, stay flexible in life, and still be on the ground with both feet.

IN SCHOOL SMOKING BECAME TRENDY. SASKIA THOUGH WAS RESISTANT TO THE TEMPTATION WITH THE REASON OF BECOMING A WORLD-FAMOUS SINGER AND NOT WANTING TO RUIN HER VOICE.

Then at the age of 14, she started her singing career: With her best friend, the passionate singer and dancer founded a dance group. Under the name “Cat Eyes”, the newly formed girl group held a small casting and found two other members – classmates from her school. The four sang songs by TLC, Aaliyah, Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti, Whitney Houston and many others. Saskia and her best friend thought up choreographies, which they then rehearsed together.

SASKIA REGULARLY APPEARED IN SOLO PERFORMANCES AT WEDDINGS AND WAS DISCOVERED ONE DAY BY ONE OF THE GUESTS: A MUSIC MANAGER SEEING GREAT POTENTIAL IN SASKIA’S VOICE.

The collaboration reached its climax when the music manager of the girl group made a big appearance in a hall in Germany in addition to several smaller appearances in Switzerland.

Cooking & gastronomy

A crucial experience in Saskia’s life was her apprenticeship, which she started at the age of 16 at the renowned four-star hotel “Parkhotel” in Rheinfelden, Aargau. Today she still says, these were incredibly precious years of learning: From discipline to stamina and the love to detail, everything was there.

FOR SASKIA THERE WAS NO CHOICE WHEN HER FINAL EXAMS OF HER COOKING EDUCATION CAME CLOSER: A MEETING WAS CONVENED WITH THE TEACHER AND HER MOTHER. SASKIA HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO GOOD SENSE TO CONCENTRATE ON HER APPRENTICESHIP AND HAD TO AGREE NOT TO CONTINUE TO SING.

After graduating, Saskia worked for six years in various catering establishments, including three years as head chef at the restaurant “Eskapad” in Olten. She found her way back to her voice and gained more and more experience as a singer in rock and soul bands. In between she was a soloist in a choir. In 2005, she took part at the Swiss casting show “Music Star”, was later a candidate for the German show “Das Supertalent” and participated in “The Greatest Swiss talent” on Swiss television.

JUROR DJ BOBO OF THE SHOW “THE GREATEST SWISS TALENTS” SAID THAT SASKIA’S VOICE WOULD NOT BE ENOUGH FOR THE SWISS STAGE. SO THE JURY KICKED HER OUT OF THE SHOW.

She produced several soundtracks in DIFFERENT studioS, including “The Rose” by Beth Midler, “Hit The Road, Jack!”, And “RIGHT TO BE WRONG” by JOSS STONE. BECAUSE SHE WAS NEVER SATISFIED WITH HER VOCAL RECORDING, THESE RECORDS WERE NEVER PUBLISHED.

At the age of 25, she started a joB in a hip restaurant Einstein in Aarau. A year later, she moved professionally to Lucerne to work at the Culture and Convention Center KKL as deputy chef de service.
In order to step up professionally, Saskia attended the business school and graduated with a business diploma. She continued her career with a training as a nutritionist and motivation coach and worked in Zug for three years in a practice. During this time, she focused more and more on her own goals and so her performances as a singer at weddings and various events were numerous. She learned English from MTV (Music TV) and from Walt Disney movies.

Chapter 4

Brain stroke & new beginning

A week before her 30th birthday Saskia suffered from a brain stroke: the left side of her body was completely paralysed. She was examined by a neurologist in the Cantonal Hospital of Lucerne who could not explain the cause.

FOR SASKIA, ON THE OTHER HAND, THE REASON FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AT HER YOUNG AGE OF 30 YEARS WAS CLEAR: SHE WAS NOT LIVING HER LIFE. THEREUPON SHE TOOK THE COURAGE AND WAS FINALLY DETERMINED TO BECOME A SINGER. Almost at the same time, she could move her hand again. AND the Idea of Dust of Soul was born.

She quit her job, cancelled the apartment and sold her belongings. Having left a suitcase, two boxes of her childhood memories, she traveled to New York City and started looking for her own inner artist. On a park bench in Central Park, she started out of nowhere to finally finish her own lyrics with melodies.
A month later, she met Michael Odermatt at the main train station in Lucerne and Dust of Soul became a duo: The successful story began…
